A real-life example
“Martha” (not her real name, but a real patient of ours) is a loving mother and wife. And one of the ways she likes to show that love is to prepare large family meals or barbeques. One of her favorite life experiences is to have her husband, kids, and grandkids at her home, all eating on the outside deck. She prepares her favorite dishes, sets out the “fixins,” spends time making the table festive…
…and then doesn’t eat. Martha doesn’t touch her food. She runs around, making sure everyone is settled, or has enough. She runs back into the kitchen to get more.
